Q. What’s an eCertificate?

A. It’s an 8.5” x 11” electronic (PDF) version of your certificate that you can download or print yourself. It looks exactly the same as a printed certificate, however it’s available to you immediately, to print at your convenience, once your exam is graded and scores are available on www.ServSafe.com.

Q: How can I get a wallet card?

A: A Wallet Card is also available in an electronic format. You can view and print your wallet card, just like your eCertificate.

Q: How do I get my certificate?

A: Create and log into your ServSafe Account. Here you can print, save, email or share your certificate with your employer.

For print-based exams: If your exam date was before May 1, 2015, you’ll receive a certificate in the mail sent by your instructor/proctor. If your exam date was on or after May 1, once your exam is graded, you will have access to your eCertificate starting Thursday, May 7. You can download or print your eCertificate at that time. You can also request a copy be sent via United States Postal Service (USPS) to you for a $10 fee.

For online exams: If your exam date was on or before Tuesday, May 5, you’ll receive a certificate in the mail from your instructor/proctor. If you take your exam on or after Thursday, May 7, once your exam is graded, you will have access to your eCertificate immediately. You can download or print your eCertificate at that time. You can also request a copy be sent via USPS to you for a $10 fee.

As of Thursday May 7, all examinees with a current certificate will be able to download or print an eCertificate. To obtain their certificates, or request one to be sent, the students should log on to ServSafe.com, go to My Exams, and they’ll see an option to download their certificates, or request one to be mailed via USPS to them directly for a $10 fee.

Q. How do I get a certificate sent directly to me?

A. Go to ServSafe.com, under the Students tab select "Exam Activities" and “Print Your Certificate”, log in or create a profile, and you’ll see an option to order your certificate. There’s a $10 fee to have a certificate printed and sent to you via the USPS.

Q. What if I don’t have an email address?

A. When you register on our website, you’ll see an option to create a free email account.

Q. Why do I need to pay for a certificate?

A. There is no charge to print/reprint eCertificates from ServSafe.com. There is a $10 shipping and handling fee to have a certificate mailed to you.

Q. How often can I print or download my certificate?

A. You’ll have unlimited access to print and download your certificate until it expires.

Q. How can I share my certificate information with other people?

A. Go to ServSafe.com, under the Students tab select "Exam Activities" and “Print Your Certificate,”log in or create a profile and you’ll see an option to enter an email address under "Email this Certificate" and share your certificate information. A link to your certificate will be sent to the address you entered. The recipient will have three days to view your certificate. After that time you’ll need to repeat this process to send a new link.

Q. Can my manager verify that I have a certificate?

A. Yes. Along with eCertificates, we now have aCertificate Look Up tool available. By entering a name and the type of certificate, you can validate if someone is currently certified. This can be especially helpful for current or future employers and regulatory agencies.

Q. How do I get my certificate if I don’t have a computer at home?

A. We recommend using a computer at work or the local library. In the future we plan to have both our eCertificates and Certificate Look Up tool compatible with mobile devices.

Certification Process

A passing score for the ServSafe Alcohol Primary Exam is 75%. This is obtained by answering at least 30 out of 40 questions correctly. A passing score for the ServSafe Alcohol Advanced, Proctored Exam is 80% or higher.

What happens if my ServSafe course expires? ›

After a course has expired, a student will not be able to access that course. A new one will need to be purchased. Online courses are not refundable and expiration dates cannot be extended.

What is the passing score for the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Examination? A passing score is 70% or higher. This is obtained by answering at least 56 out of 80 questions correctly. The exam has 90 questions; however there are 10 pilot questions that are for research purposes only.

Why is the ServSafe test so hard? ›

The ServSafe Manager exam builds upon the Food Handler test content. As a result, there is a lot of material to cover to pass the test successfully. If you have not taken a previous food safety course, there is a higher chance that you will fail.
